With a bomb bay carrying ten 100 lb bombs and equipped with a .30 calibre machine gun in its dorsal turret, it served as a bombardier and gunnery trainer. The AT7 version was a navigational trainer.

There was also a cargo version of this type, which was known as the C-45 Expeditor. The Twin Beach was one of the most successful and widely used aircraft of its size and type ever built. Many Twin Beach’s were used after the war as corporate transport planes.

In February 1942 a new force entered the war in Europe; Bomber Harris, the Chief of the RAF’s Bomber Command. Air Marshall Harris struck against the Luftwaffe’s air superiority, the tactic was to launch a thousand bomber raids over the industrial towns and cities of Germany in an attempt to stem the German war machine and break the spirit of the German nation. Using every available operational aircraft, these massive formations flew at night bombing the very heart of Germany. Meanwhile, the United States poured man and machines into England establishing bases from Lincolnshire to Gloucestershire. The 8th Air Force was concentrating on raiding smaller strategic targets by daylight. At the Casablanca Conference in 1943 it was decided between Roosevelt and Churchill that there was to be a combined bomber offensive against Germany and for the first time American bombs would be dropped on German soil. The idea of Operation Point Blank was to bomb the devils around the clock, the USAAF by day and the RAF by night. With the eastern front well established after the invasion of Russia, the German war machine was now stretched to capacity. The direct objective was to disrupt the Germanic war effort as much as possible and to lower morale in preparation for a combined cross channel allied attack.
